Kate Glenn

Kate Glenn (b. 1988, Rochester, NY) has lived many lives. At present she is a queer, feminist, polyamorous, cinephile interdisciplinary artist with four cats, residing in Glasgow.
She has exhibited in several shows around Glasgow and Edinburgh. Her studies were supported in part by the Baird Bursary Postgraduate Scholarship. She was also awarded the first inaugural Arthouse Prize, offering the opportunity to create her first public works. Prior to moving to Scotland she exhibited work in upstate New York; Baltimore, Maryland; and Seoul, South Korea. She earned her BFA from Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA).

I am an interdisciplinary artist who explores vulnerability through emotional and physical processing. I create monuments to specific instants, attempting to slow time and reflect on the rapid pace of my life. All the events were exploratory and expansive, relating to myself in body and mind. They range in categories: sexual, medical, emotional; with overlap and cross contamination. I embrace the impossibility of capturing the truth of a specific moment in time while stubbornly attempting to recreate and elevate images and feelings with obsessive faithfulness to details anyway. Mirrors, camera phones, and social media are all spaces for reflection on the present and past in my work and life. The efforts to share are sincere and generous but perhaps tainted by the nature of intimacy that is mediated by screens.
