Zeena Wright-Al Tai
Zeena Wright-Al Tai (b. 1996) is a draw-er and textile artist working in Glasgow and London. Wright-Al Tai’s mix-media practice explores themes of solitude, surrealism, fantasy, and neo-colonialism (of land and body). Using wordplay and florid imagery, she constructs sublime worlds in which femme and queer figures luxuriate in nature, occasionally delving into the sensory experiences of psychosis and hypomania- a nod toward her lived experience with Bipolar Disorder. Her preferred mediums of needlework and installation beckons spectators to – ‘impale the sense’- enter her constructed worlds, urging them to let go of ‘reality’ and embrace a fantastical parallel universe. Wright Al Tai holds an AA degree in Fine Art and Textiles from Parsons School of Design and a 1:1 BA Honours degree in Fine Art Painting from University of the Arts London: Wimbledon College of Art.
