Marlena Morris
Marlena Morris was born and raised in Oakland, California and re-located to Glasgow to attend The Glasgow School of Art MFA program in 2009. Primarily a photographer, her work involves questioning our everyday surroundings and the absurdity and creepiness lurking just under the surface of a carefully cultivated façade. These photos could be of literally anything, linked thematically and aesthetically by a specific visual style. Recently, Morris has embarked on a long-term project investigating Cephalopods; it began with an interest in the absurdity of everyday domestic practices and has evolved from there into an investigation into qualities of utter alien-ness. This involves placing them in familiar domestic environments but obscuring the spaces so that the main focus is on the fascinating grotesqueness of the Cephalopods.
