Statement
In my practice I explore domestic situations and the disconcertion that can be found in the familiar, personal and private worlds. My work includes creating live performances and videos that often incorporate soft sculptures, using fabric and crochet techniques (knitted things), found objects, food, and masks. I aim towards the humorous and strange and in exploring the concept of domesticity I blur and remove the neutralising, distanced aspect of making my work obviously ‘art’
I have adopted a subject matter that disturbs disinterested contemplation: a representation of animals that reaches beyond of the comfortably anthropomorphic (influenced here by animal theories.) I am interested in creating environments where the viewer is challenged to negotiate their own personal and physical boundaries.
