Browne’s practice investigates bodily experiences of language and desire. This involves reconjuring moments and objects from historical and contemporary settings to consider a crisis of the romantic body. Alliances are formed with figures at stake in these moments and fictions are composed, blurring personal testimony with their narratives. Processes of translation, including material and oral, and vernacular sensitivity are important considerations in this process.
These concerns have involved an eclectic range of research and work such as Sacred Disease (2019), a voice-over film presented at MFA Degree Show 2019 exploring the weaponisation of language in romance, A Wall or Bridge Disappears Abruptly at the Hinge (2019), a publication written as a personally embodied response to a folding screen by Irish designer and architect Eileen Gray (1878 - 1976), Deboned Voices (2018) a five part sound and sculptural installation examining the mouth as the entry point to accent commissioned by the Edinburgh Art Festival for Platform: 2018, and Redressing Redressing (2017), the reconstruction of the nose of a 4th Century Ancient Greek bust through sculpture (in plaster and handmade soap), fragrance and drawing.
