Maria Filippou’s work is concerned with negotiating the meaning of the body and how that might be altered through representation.

This is mainly understood through manipulating imagery of the body’s portrayal in medical and cinematic records, focusing on the genre of science fiction(SF).

Recent development of work consists of a narrative that lingers between fiction and personal testimony.

The films deal with imagery in the same way SF does, offering us a world radically discontinuous than the one we know, yet returns to confront that known world in some cognitive way.

The process of composing the film exposes the different layers that comprise the image whilst dealing with questions around alterity, subjectivity and the limitations of the human body.
