Darae Baek

Darae Baek (b.1989, South Korea) is a video installation artist, based in Seoul and Glasgow. Baek received her BA in Fine Art from Central Saint Martins in 2016 and is currently staying in Glasgow. She recalls familiar fragrances and past moments from unfamiliar places. In a totally different time and space, she meets unexpected memories that she had already forgotten. In such a moment of past reverberation, the ‘new place’ no longer holds the meaning only kept by new places, as it gets easily absorbed by a nostalgia transcending time and space. Through these experiences, Baek films a video to define her position in a new place with her nostalgic memories. Recently, she focuses on creating a film to show the uncanny space between languages and her and express how the subsequent uncertainties confused her due to the sound elements and visually lucid Scottish landscapes surrounding her.
