Maria Gondek's work constructs tangible encounters that temporarily manifest themselves as material interventions in time and space. Being site- and situation specific, the work is a reflection on its immediate circumstances as well as the historical, architectural and social narratives that are embedded within. Utilizing kinetics in the broadest sense, Gondek's work is always in a state of transition creating a sensation of connection between viewer and object embodied in the temporality of the install. Within this exchange Gondek creates accessible work that fosters a feeling of empathy in the viewer and through a subtle humor she allows it to be a generous one.
