Fabricating my work is always an investigative journey into the histories and myths of overlooked and forgotten design. These moments of unpopularity for me are opportunities to allow history to be changeable and slippery. When the bike is activated in the gallery space, when it is cycled around the blue path on the floor, the future feels somehow more uncertain. When the violin is played the relationship between instrument, instrumentalist, and instrument maker becomes incredibly tense. When the acrylic wheel is tested in earnest and shattered, the entire system is allowed to collapse for a few seconds.

As we move forward in design and material development, I want to make works that act as touch stones for what the implications are of the material technology we socially construct. Right now #dogs can lead to cute puppy videos or a welding jig and carbon fibre bicycles cycle through plumes of carbon emissions.
