Julian Alexander Tolhurst
Julian Tolhurst is a Canadian artist who is concerned with personal political gestures and the narratives that surround these actions. He is interested in what the individual can do to shape, change, or critique public opinion outside of standard means of protest.
At the age of 21, he had his first solo exhibition at the White Water Gallery in North Bay, Ontario. After his B.ED, he lived in Abu Dhabi before moving to Beijing in 2012. During his four years in China, Julian became increasingly involved in making reactionary art that responded to the tense political environment.
He currently resides in Glasgow and is continuing his research into political gestures through remixing football goal celebrations into choreographed dances, redacting used books, and altering other unlikely materials.
