Kathryn Ashill
b. 1984 Wales
Amateur dramatics, theatre flats, stage lighting, public monuments and performance are central to Ashill’s practice. Kathryn aims to pursue the theatricality in the everyday whilst sharing her observations on autobiography, people, history and site.
Harvesting and sharing performance documentation creates the opportunity for Ashill to emphasize her physical and emotional experiences of the performances. Installation of film documentation, photographic documentation, married with written responses from the live artwork is represented in a gallery environment.
There is a strong participatory spirit within the live performances Ashill creates. The work takes place both inside the gallery and in the public realm. Civic life and duty is explored through interactions with memorial sites, face painting, costume and public events.
