Lauren M Wells
Lauren Wells explores identity, vulnerability and the construction of memory. She draws on daily life and personal experiences to create works employing text, video, sculpture and performance. Her work is grounded in drawing as a philosophical approach to making, utilizing immediacy to capture fleeting moments of life. She re-contextualizes personal narrative as representations of the self are edited and re-edited, creating new fictional histories. Her current series, ‘It’s All New’, weaves a short series of poems related to a dream sequence from her childhood with recent diaristic writings and videos from her travels to Portugal. The work operates in both the past and present to question our ability to leave the past behind us, possibly evoking a sense of intimacy, loss or nostalgia.
