Seth Orion Schwaiger
Seth Orion Schwaiger, born 1984, spent most of his childhood in a small town in northern Wyoming. He received his BFA from The University of Wyoming and will receive his MFA from The Glasgow School of Art in 2013. He has also trained as a studio assistant in Cortona Italy, practicing stone carving and as a woodcraft pupil at VKV Cultural Center in Kerala, India. His work has been collected in Italy, Germany, the UK, and the US with large public sculpture at the University of Wyoming in Laramie; Presbyterian Hospital, Dallas, Texas; the Broomhill Sculpture Park, Devon, UK as part of the 2011 National Sculpture Prize Exhibition; and Ozu Cultural Centre in Rome, Italy. Mr. Schwaiger’s work has recently been exhibited in the Kunstraum Kreuzberg/Bethanien Galleries, Berlin; Sihlquai55, Zurich; and at the Affordable Art Fair in London, with solo shows at the Pentagon Gallery as part of the Glasgow International Festival of Visual Art in 2010, The Glasgow Print Studio in 2011, and Glasgow’s The Old Hairdresser’s in 2013. His work has also been exhibited recently at Blue Star Contemporary Art Center, San Antonio, also at Art Cellar, London, and Chashama 461 Gallery, New York City.
Statement
My practice revolves around ideas of perceived intrinsic value, whether that be the value of a material, a form, skill, or perception. Through plays on the viewer’s curiosity my work aims to seduce the onlooker into the position of jeopardizing often pre-constructed notions of value and quality.
