Kaifeng Chun

Kaifeng Chun (born 1982) is a Singaporean artist. His practice is embedded in concepts related to waiting, boredom and now. He is a recipient of the Singapore National Arts Council Overseas Bursary (2009) and the Singapore Art Exhibition Prize (2009). He is presently working on projects with The National Art Gallery of Singapore and Taipei Contemporary Art Center.

Statement

For me, our contemporary atmosphere is both funny and sad and appears colored with boredom, waiting and now. I am always attempting to articulate my experience of this situation through works which include installations, sculptural objects and pictures. Drawing on a modernist vernacular, the works reconfigure the utilitarian order of the quotidian to become poetically realigned and evoking meditations on the temporal and spatial dissonances of the built environment.
