I am interested in the inevitability and the absurdity of conflict. My works depict moments of impending doom and encounters charged with both comedy and dread, where unlikely foes come face to face and vie for pictorial and conceptual supremacy. The tension between the characters is echoed by the dramatic conjunctions of painterly technique – the allure of high gloss varnish is pitted against the stubborn inertness of a matt finish, while thick and goopy paint confronts insidious colour. With ultimately victory eternally deferred, my absurd combatants remain forever frozen in a colourful and winner-less purgatory.
