For reasons that I perhaps do not fully understand, I have felt powerfully drawn since I was an undergraduate student to those with special needs of one kind or another. I was very close to an aunt who suffered from mental illness: perhaps this is part of the reason.

I’m also interested in Medical Art. Medical artists use medical silicon and resin to make replacement body or facial parts for people who may have lost them through accidents, cancer, or malformation. Previously I studied both prosthetic making techniques and the communication skills required when working with such patients and their families; now in my work I explore various wider aspects of human fragility and vulnerability.
