John Nicol

John Nicol was born in Aberdeen in 1980. He graduated from Grays School of Art in 2001 before moving to Glasgow where he currently resides.

Statement

During my time on the MFA I have been exploring themes concerning conflict, contradiction, aesthetics and relationships to the natural world. Working predominantly in sculptural installation, drawing and painting I use commonplace materials from costume jewellery and carpets to industrial glue to raise questions about decadence and highlight contradictions within the work and themes involved.
