Rika Watanabe

Rika was born and grew up in Japan. She completed her BA in Sculpture at Wimbledon College of Art, London.

Statement

Rika investigates the sense of belonging and not belonging through her personal experience of objects that relate to particular places, cultures and events. By using her own interpretation of these objects, she creates fictions around them. She finds the otherness in herself through not belonging to her previous social group or one that is usually hidden. Her roles in the imaginative acts are both as an observer and a participant.
