Richard Taylor

Richard was born in Sheffield in 1985 and grew up in North East Derbyshire. He completed his BA at Leeds University in 2007 and has lived in Scotland since 2009. In 2010 he coordinated the implementation of Transmission’s archive, and from 2013 to 2015 co-edited the artist-run publication Gnommero. Also in 2015 he undertook a research residency in art writing with Edinburgh College of Art and Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop. He works for a-n The Artists Information Company and has written for Modern Edinburgh Film School, National Galleries of Scotland, and The Skinny.

Richard’s work is driven by a writing practice in which autobiographical, historical and geographical sources are points of departure. Combinations of recorded voice, slide photography, video, object-making and performance are then used to create larger narratives, in which the listener or viewer is referred to resonant themes and research. Corporal and aural intimacies and proximities are considered, as are dialogues around the connections identity can or cannot have with landscape, community, people or things.
