Darren Tesar

Darren Tesar (born 1984) is an artist currently based in Glasgow. He received his BFA from the University of Wisconsin-Stout in 2008 and is currently working toward a Master of Fine Art at The Glasgow School of Art.

Statement

Darren Tesar utilizes indiscriminate materials, objects, and practices taken from daily activity to explore concepts tied to heterogeneous cultural acceleration and the obsolescence therein. Incorporating references to minimalism, design, and architecture, he applies a manufactured aesthetic onto readymade articles.

Darren's research navigates our culture/historical response to acceleration and finitude through the context of tourism. From cryogenically freezing and pulverizing volcanic rock, to recreating forms of previous Guinness World Records, a limitless approach to exploring sites of information holds the potential to expose the limits of research. In short, the specificity of this research puts into a language the non-specificity found in a touristic approach to research. The result builds up from and links together seemingly disparate cultural products and/or programs into interdependent hybrids.
