Carla Scott Fullerton

My work is shaped by my sensitivity to materials and the ephemeral nature of all things monumental.

Materials speak about the status and economies of a building, its usage, contents and age. Structurally speaking, I am interested in the combined usage of old and new materials to make new and more fluid contemporary formations.

Working with heavy industrial materials such as cement and steel, I allow materials to take on their own form. Devoid of usual restrictions through the irregular and unpredictable processes of pouring, the work is deliberately imperfect, and free of the expected forms governed by the traditional notions of architecture.

Recent developments in my work emphasise a variety of materials that are sourced and located largely in the past, yet fuse directly with the present. I also aim to engage the viewer in more precarious and unpredictable encounters with sculptural architectural forms.
